All is Well (Drawings)
Kozyrev renders subjects such as buildings, trees, street lamps, and animals in amazing detail, using open spaces to suggest the observations of a passenger or the driver’s lapse of concentration as they are distracted by the various sites passing by.
These drawings, created from the joy of discovery that comes with the experience of travel. In many of Kozyrev’s paintings, the traveler’s urgency to reach their intended destination is represented by a central perspective point with various peripheral references to the landscape passing by. The All Is Well drawings, in contrast, offer a side view as if the traveler is less interested in destination, but rather focused on specific images within the passing environment. Freezing the scene as in a movie still, Kozyrev renders subjects such as buildings, trees, street lamps, and animals in amazing detail, using open spaces to suggest the observations of a passenger or the driver’s lapse of concentration as they are distracted by the various sites passing by. These sites are broken and reflected by the frame of the window, a billboard which reflects the landscape behind it. These drawings can be taken as an examination of how the speed of travel causes the viewer to experience the landscape as a simulation or imitation of the real world. Or they can be enjoyed as pleasant observations gathered casually along the way.
